Who Do I Think I Am, Anyway?

Months ago, when I heard BlogHer '10 had sold out, I immediately headed to their site to get myself on the waiting list. Why? Because I always want what I can't have, and dang it, I wanted to go to that conference.

And then I promptly forgot all about it.

But you know what? They didn't forget about me. A couple of days ago, I got an email informing me that more sponsors had been found and a ticket was now available for me.  A ticket! For BlogHer! In New York City!!!

Being the impulsive person that I am, I immediately logged on and bought myself a conference pass.

And now I'm freaking the hell out.

Me? At BlogHer? With 2,000 other bloggers? What on earth was I thinking?

As I may have remarked a time or two, I'm a bit of an introvert. Stick me in a large crowd and I start looking for the nearest corner to hide in.

I'm a little afraid it will be a repeat of high school. You know, with the cool girls (with thousands of readers) all gossiping and laughing loudly while I look on from the sidelines, pushing my glasses up my nose with one shaking hand while I keep the other arm firmly clamped across my hunched chest.

I know I've come a long way since then. My social skills have improved—vastly. I'm sure I'll do fine. In fact, I'm looking forward to meeting the friends I've made here and across the blogosphere.

But I'd feel better if I could pack all of you in my suitcase so that when I got there, I'd have my own posse to hang with. You know, so we could explore the big city (until now, I've spent all of 24 hours there), rehash the sessions and snark about the people around us.

Tell me some of you will be there?

  1. I was just thinking about blogger and what I'd like to do is just go to see the bloggers that I read, not for my lonely 26 readers to meet me. Does that make sense? Even if I had 2,000 readers, I'm pretty sure I'd still mostly want to go to meet the people that I read because, I just don't think anyone would REALLY want to meet ME. I'm pretty sure that people only follow me because they see I only have 26 followers and feel sorry for me so they click follow. I don't know...........I'd like to meet the people who follow me.......

Think they would ever hold blogger in St. Louis? I'd so go to hang out and meet all of the blogs that I follow...because I follow some pretty awesome people!

  4. I wish. I'm going to a Casual Blogger Conference--(Yeah you never heard of it? That's cause it is in its FIRST year) But not BLogher yet.
    Soon, very soon.
But to go I would need to afford plane tickets to NY.
    So probably not anytime soon.
But maybe someday we will be able to meet! I'd love to meet another fellow blogger and writer! :))

  6. Yay for you! You DESERVE to be there! I'm so excited to think that you'll finally get the reader-ship (is that a word???) that you deserve. And I'll be proud to say I was among your first loyal readers!

  7. I'd so love to go but with two in college, it just doesn't seem like a justifiable expense this year. Maybe next year:)

  8. I can't imagine you think that of yourself.

    You are spectacular to me!!

I think everyone there will see it, too.

Try not to compare yourself to others, it'll only bring you down and intimidate.

At the risk of sound like a mother (which I am) "be yourself, honey!"

    Because YOU=fabulous!

  10. I wish I could go! A plane ticket from Oklahoma to NY will be outrageous. That would be so awesome, though, to go and meet up with so many other bloggers. Not to mention what it's going to do for your own blog! Congrats on getting a ticket and I hope you have a So much fun! Be yourself- just like you are on here- and everything will fall into place. =)

  14. Sounds awesome. Unfortunately, I won't be there. Maybe someday. You know, when I can convince my work that it's totally a work-related job expense and they will pay for it!
Until then, I will be living vicariously through you!

  15. It would appear that I haven't read anyone's blog in well over a week so I'm just getting to comment on this post now (disgraceful I know). I'm not going, but would love to someday! Dispite spending my professional life in front of large groups of people acting like a fool, I am actually a shy person and would most definately be hiding in the corner with you!

I say go and force yourself to stand at least 6 feet away from the nearest corner with a big smile and I promise you'll meet some awesome bloggers that are just as cool as you (and that's pretty darn cool)!
